It is a Human Resources and Management recurring nightmare.

Well compensated employees and contractors sitting around in their pajamas reading the newspaper, playing Nintendo, or doing laundry on the companies dime. The vast majority of time these fears are unfounded and false, but as a work at home employee or contractor, you still have to breach the wall of worry to legitimize work at home. In reality, how do the same Human Resources and Management folks know you are not wasting an equal or greater amount of time at the office, but not in your pajamas of course.
The burden of proof is on YOU, the remote worker. You are conscious of the lingering outdated perceptions of those working from home. You know you work harder and smarter from home. You know your productivity goes through the roof. So how do you demonstrate this to Human Resources and Management.
I suggest one or all of the following prove you are working from home tips.
1. Stay in contact throughout the day with Supervisors, co-workers, and clients / customers.
Spread your communication throughout the workday and diversify your channel between email / instant messaging and telephone calls.
2. Occasionally plan on showing up for meetings face to face.
This will keep a face with the voice or email for those that you do not frequently communicate with. Use video conferencing if distance is an issue.
3. Meet or exceed all deadlines.
This should be part of your operating mode anyway, but it is always good to have an occasional reminder. Expect to be under increased scrutiny initially when beginning remote work.
4. Communicate and over-communicate your working hours.
Knowledge can be the key to power. Empower your Supervisors, Peers, and Clients / Customers to help with your successful execution of remote work by letting them know when they can expect you to be available.
5. Be a time management expert.
Schedule your tasks daily in priority within your work hours. Track progress regularly.
6. Get it in writing.
Make sure you have a written agreement for your remote working arrangement that specifies employer expectations.
7. Stop the rumour mill in its tracks.
If you hear of any questions regarding your availability or inegrity and honesty with regard to your hours, immediately address them. Always be honest with you billable hours and time entry.
The best strategy is to never provide a reason for others to question you in the first place.
