What is Remote Working?

Occasionally we all need to circle back to the basics. Many concepts and principles are termed or defined differently by different people. Every now and then I get the following question, “What is Remote Working“? In this post lets try to define what remote working is, what different terminology is used to describe remote working, and how we define as remote working for our readers at Remote Worker Daily.

The narrow definition of Remote Working.

Remote working is defined for employees as any work completed away from an employers place of business. For the self employed, freelancers, and other business owners it is defined as any work completed away from their formal office or customer site.

The broad definition of Remote Working.

The broad definition of remote working is the ability to choose when and where you work. This could be from a home office, coffee shop, couch, beach, airplane, or wherever you choose. It could be in the morning, afternoon, evening, or middle of the night. it could be in your home city or on the other side of the globe. It is essentially the freedom to choose the time and location where you work.

Our definition of remote working also includes part time or full time. It could be one day a week, two days a week, or all week. The location and quantity is less important than freedom of location, which is the key.

– telecommuting
home office
